The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has issued Notification No. 57/2025-26 dated 05 February 2026, bringing changes to the import policy and policy conditions for umbrellas classified under Chapter 66 of ITC (HS) 2022.
This notification has been published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) and is applicable with immediate effect.
Under the powers granted by the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and in line with the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, the Central Government has revised:
Import Policy status, and/or
Policy conditions
for specific HS codes related to umbrellas under Chapter 66.
These changes are reflected in Schedule-I (Import Policy) of ITC (HS) 2022.
Umbrellas are widely imported for:
Retail trade
Promotional and corporate gifting
Seasonal sales
Any change in import policy—whether shifting from Free to Restricted, or introduction of additional conditions—can directly impact:
Import planning
Customs clearance
Costing and timelines
Compliance requirements
Importers who do not align with the revised policy may face delays, penalties, or rejection of shipments.
If you are dealing in umbrellas or related products, you should immediately:
Check the exact HS code applicable to your product
Review the revised import policy and conditions as per the notification
Assess impact on existing or upcoming import orders
Coordinate with your CHA or trade consultant before filing Bills of Entry
Early compliance can save both time and money.
DGFT policy updates are not just procedural changes—they directly affect business operations. Staying updated with notifications like this ensures smoother imports and avoids last-minute surprises at customs.
If you import umbrellas or are planning to, this notification deserves your attention.
